Have you ever planted a tiny seed and watched it grow? Gardening is a wonderful way for children to slow down, get their hands dirty, and discover just how amazing nature can be. Whether they're planting flowers, growing vegetables or watering a favorite plant, every garden is filled with opportunities to learn.
Gardens teach children that good things take time to grow. With healthy soil, fresh water, sunshine, and a little patience, tiny seeds can grow into beautiful flowers, tasty fruits and vegetables, or colorful plants that brighten the world around us.
This week, we're celebrating all things gardens with playful activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, mindfulness, and hands-on exploration. Whether you have a backyard garden or simply enjoy learning about plants, this theme is a wonderful way to help children connect with nature through play.

This Week's Activities
This week's garden lesson encourages children to explore, create, and discover how plants grow. Here are just a few of the activities included in the lesson:
🌱 Five Senses Mindfulness Children begin by using their five senses to slow down and notice the world around them. What do they see growing? What do flowers smell like? How does the soil feel? This activity encourages children to become more present while exploring nature.
🌼 Playful Yoga & Movement Get little gardeners moving with a playful sun salutation, the featured Child's Pose inspired by a tiny seed, and parachute play while singing Mr. Golden Sun. These activities encourage movement while reinforcing how sunshine helps gardens grow.
🪴 Garden Sensory Bin Children can dig, plant, and explore with flowers, soil, flower pots, and kid-friendly gardening tools. This hands-on sensory experience encourages imaginative play while introducing basic gardening concepts.
🎨 Egg Carton Flower Craft Using recycled egg cartons, paint, and colorful craft supplies, children create their own blooming flowers. It's a fun way to combine creativity with this week's garden theme.
🌸 Pass the Flower This cooperative game encourages teamwork and movement as children carefully pass a flower from one person to the next using their feet. It's a playful way to practice balance, coordination, and working together.
📚 Storytime & Meditation The lesson ends with a themed story followed by a calming guided meditation, giving children time to relax, reflect, and appreciate the beauty of nature.
